Working with The Salvation Army, Malaysia

Bookaholics Anonymous & The Salvation Army Collaboration

Bookaholics Anonymous is honoured to be working in collaboration with Red Shield Industries Malaysia, The Salvation Army in Doing the Most Good. Together, we want to build a reading culture in Malaysian communities by providing affordable second-hand books nationwide through the sale of our used books on this website.

We also want to save books from being thrown out and recycled, and to give them a longer lease of life for as long as they are usable, to benefit more readers. So whenever possible, do support used books and pass them on to more keen readers to open more minds and improve literacy one reader at a time.

Some percentage of our book sales proceeds are channelled to The Salvation Army as part of our contribution to support them in serving those in need.

About Red Shield Industries Malaysia

Red Shield Industries (RSI) is the social enterprise arm of The Salvation Army. By re-using, recycling and restoring donations in kind from the public and corporations, RSI generates income through its Family Thrift Stores to support its mission to provide holistic care to the community.

RSI’s mission is to be highly regarded by the general public for excellence in delivery of a donation in kind service, which is sensitive and responsive to the needs of the community while meeting the welfare and funding needs of The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army in Malaysia is in the business of changing lives, making its entrance to Malaya in July, 1938 when Frederick Harvey set up the first centre in a former YMCA building in Penang. He went on to establish a free school on the island for hundreds of poor children, building upon our Founder William Booth’s mission to break cycles of poverty. Over the initial few years the Army opened up corps and social programmes in Ipoh, Melaka, Batang Melaka and Kuching.

The Salvation Army in Malaysia has ten corps and a range of social service programmes that provide both spiritual guidance and practical assistance to people in need. The Army has developed its specialised residential care work with young people and has also developed other services such as homes for the elderly, day care centres, kindergartens and community service centres.
